France vs Senegal Prediction, Odds & Match Preview

World Cup co-favorites France begin its 2026 tournament against AFCON winners Senegal.

Les Bleus saw a four-match winning streak end in the first of two pre-tournament friendlies. Despite taking a 1-0 lead against the Ivory Coast, France allowed two goals to fall 2-1.

Senegal also saw an eventful pre-tournament match against the USMNT. A rotated squad quickly fell behind 2-0 and ultimately lost 3-2 to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.

I don’t place much stock in the eventful friendlies before the tournament. France rotated its entire defense before conceding twice, while Senegal sent out backups in midfield and defense.

At full strength, both teams should limit opponent scoring chances. At minimum, I’m confident the French defense keeps Senegal’s attack from scoring on Matchday 1.

At the 2024 Euros, BTTS – “No” proved a French staple. The prop bet cashed in four of six matches, with a penalty kick against Poland representing one exception.

The other failure came against Spain. Despite keeping La Furia Roja under one expected goal, France allowed two goals from unlikely destinations.

In 2022, Senegal struggled to create chances against comparable defenses. England and the Netherlands both kept clean sheets against Senegal.

Across both matches, the African outfit generated 0.85 xG per 90 and 0.67 post-shot xG per 90. England, the closest comparison to France’s defense, kept Senegal to 0.12 post-shot xG.

Both Teams to Score – “No” cashed in both Senegal vs. Netherlands and Senegal vs. England.

While it’s difficult to quantify the matchup for Senegal’s defense, my guess is they sit back and try to beat France on the counter.

If, however, France forces them to play with the ball, I question their attacking creativity.

At the Africa Cup of Nations, Senegal struggled to create against fellow World Cup teams Egypt and Morocco. Across both matches, Senegal created 0.91 post-shot xG per 90.

France offers a step up in class defensively. Further, the 2018 champions represent an even steeper challenge than the US and Saudi Arabia in pre-tournament friendlies.

Those factors lead me to predict that at least one team will fail to score.
