Four injured in grenade explosion in Somaliland

Hargeisa (HOL) — Two Somaliland military officers and two civilians were injured Friday evening when a grenade exploded in Hargeisa, Somaliland police said.

The explosion occurred at about 7 p.m. while the two military officers were sitting together, according to a statement from the Somaliland Police Command.

Police said the grenade fell from one of the soldiers who was carrying it and exploded on the ground. The statement said there was no indication that anyone had deliberately thrown the grenade.

The two soldiers and two civilians were taken to Hargeisa General Hospital for medical treatment. Police did not provide details about the severity of their injuries.

Authorities said an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police also rejected social media reports claiming that a large explosion had occurred elsewhere in Hargeisa, saying the reports were inaccurate.

Police urged residents to avoid sharing unverified information, warning that false reports could undermine public confidence and affect security and stability in the city.

No group claimed responsibility for the explosion.
