Peter Shalulile becomes the latest name from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to secure a move to the Tanzanian Premier League in recent seasons.

Shalulile is the latest in what is an ever-growing list of former PSL players and managers to have made the move to Tanzania, particularly in recent seasons.

Most of the names in question have moved to either Young Africans or Simba, the two teams that have dominated Tanzanian football over the past decade.

Influx Of SA Talent

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile secured a move to Young Africans, reuniting with coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

The Namibian joined as a free agent on a two-year deal worth a reported $700,000 (R12 million) sign-on fee.

He follows his former Sundowns teammate, Rushine De Reuck, who joined Simba SC and has since been handed the captain’s armband on several occasions last season.

The 30-year-old has played under two former PSL coaches during his time in Tanzania, first under Fadlu Davids and now under Steve Barker.

Barker Builds on Davids’ Foundations

Barker succeeded Davids at Simba in December 2025 after the latter left for Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.

The 58-year-old went on a remarkable 25-game unbeaten streak in the league and won two trophies in his first season — the Muungano Cup and the CRDB Bank Federation Cup.

Davids narrowly missed out on silverware in Tanzania, finishing as runner-up in the league and the CAF Confederation Cup in 2024/25.
