Former Niger PDP Chairman Tanko Beji Defects to APC

Former Niger State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tanko Beji, has defected to the All Progressives Congress.

The Niger State chapter of the APC confirmed the development in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Musa Labaran, welcoming Beji into the party.

Beji reportedly stepped away from active politics last year following the PDP state congress.

He served two terms as chairman of the PDP in Niger State and previously held several positions within the party, including State Legal Adviser, Secretary, Zonal Chairman, Director-General of a governorship campaign and Acting National Youth Leader.

The APC described Beji’s defection as a significant addition to the party, citing his extensive political and administrative experience and its potential contribution to the development of both the party and Niger State.

According to the statement, Beji joined the APC on Friday after a series of consultations and deliberations. His decision, the statement said, was made in the interest of the people and the future of Niger State.

Beji was quoted as saying that joining the APC was the appropriate choice for any politician who genuinely wished to associate with what he described as the positive transformation taking place in Niger State under Governor Umaru Bago.

The APC said it had welcomed Beji into its fold and assured him of equal treatment, inclusiveness and the opportunity to apply his political experience toward the continued growth of the party and the state.

The party further described the defection as another indication of increasing confidence in the APC and the administration’s New Niger Agenda.
