Former Knights lead Post 346 to historic summer | Brazil Times

Terre Haute Post 346 put together a historic summer that included several accomplishments – Terre Haute won multiple tournament championships, finished as the runner up in another tournament, opened the season with an 18-game winning streak and finished as the American Legion Region 3 champions with a record of 34-5 – en route to a runner up placement in the American Legion Indiana State Tournament.

A quartet of Northview graduates – Dom Barnhart, Trey Eldridge, Derek Morrison and Jackson Pierce – played pivotal parts in the run that. Below are recaps on the summers each of them put together to help Post 346:

Dom Barnhart

Dom Barnhart appeared in 20 games, which included 16 starts, throughout the summer. The speedy outfielder played left field and center field and served as the team’s designated hitter on a couple of occasions. At the plate, Barnhart went 11-for-46 (.239 batting average) with one double, seven runs scored, three runs driven in, three walks and five stolen bases.

Trey Eldridge

Coming off an arm injury that kept Trey Eldridge from pitching for most of the final month of his high school career with the Knights, the hard-throwing side-armed slinger appeared in 14 games for Post 346 over the summer. Eldridge posted a 2-2 record and a 2.44 ERA to go along with three saves and 33 strikeouts in his 28.2 innings of work. In his 14 times on the mound, Eldridge nine scoreless outings and 12 outings that saw him surrender two runs or fewer.

Derek Morrison

During his senior season at Northview, Derek Morrison was the team’s starting right fielder on most nights. He played a different role for Post 346, bouncing around between five different positions – Morrison started games at second base, left field, right field and designated hitter while also appearing in a game at catcher off the bench – while still hitting in the middle of the lineup. Morrison appeared in 19 games, which included 15 starts, and posted a .302 batting average (13-for-43) to go along with two doubles, one triple, seven runs scored, 10 runs driven in, six walks and one stolen base. Morrison also logged 19.2 innings on the mound, which came in five appearances. The right-hander had a 2-2 record and a 1.42 ERA while recording 14 strikeouts. Morrison had three outings of five or more innings and also surrendered one run or fewer in four of them.

Jackson Pierce

Jackson Pierce appeared in nearly every game for Post 346 throughout the summer – the Northview graduate appeared in the field/batting order in 20 games, which included 19 starts at second base, third base and as the team’s designated hitter while also appearing on the mound in 10 games – in a variety of roles. At the plate, Pierce went 15-for-48 (.313 batting average) with one double, nine runs scored, 12 runs driven in, 10 walks and three stolen bases. And while Pierce was a big time contributor at the plate and in the field for Post 346, it was what he did on the mound that led to so much of the team’s success. The former ace of the Knights posted a 4-0 record and a 2.70 ERA to go along with two saves and 28 strikeouts in his 33.2 innings of work. Pierce threw a pair of complete games while also shutting out the opposition in five games.
