Former and current officials launch National Vision Coalition in Tripoli

A new political initiative, the National Vision Coalition, was launched in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, with the participation of a number of political, economic, and diplomatic figures. The initiative aims to help break Libya’s political deadlock and broaden participation in the country’s political process.

Those attending the launch included former Governor of the Central Bank of Libya Al-Sadiq Al-Kabir, former Oil and Gas Minister Mohamed Oun, former Libyan Ambassador to the United Nations Ibrahim Dabbashi, and several other public figures.

In its inaugural statement, the coalition welcomed international efforts to help Libyans overcome the political impasse, but argued that the political process remains far from achieving its objectives. It said political understandings have largely been limited to actors with political and military influence, contributing to a decline in public confidence in many political initiatives.

The National Vision Coalition called on Libya’s international partners to adopt transparent mechanisms that ensure the participation of representatives from civil society and political groups, with the aim of broadening participation in the political process.
