FM, Jordanian counterpart probe ties, regional developments

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, affirmed on Sunday the depth and distinctive nature of Egyptian-Jordanian relations and their commitment to further developing bilateral cooperation across various fields.

The two ministers also stressed the importance of continuing to advance the trilateral co-operation mechanism between Egypt, Jordan and Iraq, and of translating the potential of the three countries into tangible joint projects and programmes that would strengthen economic integration and serve the common interests of their peoples.

The ministers discussed the Palestinian issue and efforts to fully implement all aspects of US President Donald Trump’s plan to stabilise Gaza, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and create the conditions necessary for the Palestinian Authority to resume its responsibilities.

They also addressed the dangerous developments in the occupied West Bank, reaffirming their categorical rejection of annexation policies, settlement expansion and settler terrorism.

They stressed the need to preserve the historical and legal status quo of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. In this context, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the historical Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The two ministers reiterated their condemnation of Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom of Jordan and other Arab states, with Minister Abdelatty expressing Egypt’s full solidarity with Jordan in confronting these attacks, which threaten the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The two ministers reviewed preparations for the 166th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, to be held on Monday at the League’s headquarters in Cairo.

They also discussed preparations for the meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee concerned with international action to confront illegal Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem.

The ministers reviewed the key issues on the agendas of the two meetings and discussed ways of strengthening Arab coordination and advancing common positions on these issues.
