Flamingos To Battle Benin For U-17 WWC Ticket

Nigeria’s Under-17 girls, the Flamingos, will battle Amazons of Benin Republic in the last round of the African qualification series for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Both nations advanced to this decisive stage following commanding performances last weekend. The Nigerian side put on a ruthless display at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Sunday, demolishing Guinea 6-0. That emphatic victory completed an astonishing 11–0 aggregate rout, affirming the Flamingos’ dominance from the first whistle under head coach Akeem Busari.

Benin, meanwhile, proved too strong for Sierra Leone. After securing a 3–0 win away in the first leg, the Amazons returned home and sealed a 2–1 victory in the reverse fixture, wrapping up a 5–1 aggregate triumph.

The two-legged final qualifying round now promises a tense West African derby. Nigeria will host the opening match at their Ikenne fortress between July 3 and July 5. The return leg, scheduled for July 10–12, will determine which nation books its place on football’s global youth stage later in 2026.
