Five people were shot in Hyde Park just after midnight today, and police report one victim has died.
The shooting was reported in the area of 1184 Hyde Park Avenue, and police said that upon arrival they discovered the five gunshot victims. They were all taken to the hospital, where one has died. That address is home to the Little Haiti International Cuisine restaurant, according to online listings.
“This remains a preliminary and active investigation,” police added, with detectives on the case.
The call first came in at 12:38 a.m. with District 18 officer responding immediately, police said. All five victims were observed “suffering from gunshot wounds,” police said.
At-Large City Councilor Erin Murphy posted early today that after “waking to reports of five more people shot” it ramps up the “urgency” of a briefing she’s calling for at this week’s council meeting on the summer’s public safety plan.
“Every councilor represents residents who deserve to know their elected officials are informed, included, and working together to keep out neighborhoods safe,” Murphy added in her social media post.
Televised video of the shooting scene shows police have taped-off a crime scene on Hyde Park Avenue from the AutoZone to a nearby gas station. It appears from evidence cones set up that the shooting was outside.
This all hits as the Boston Police and Mayor Michelle Wu are set to take part in the annual National Night Out.
