First passenger sea voyage from Benghazi to Turkey in decades sets sail

The first passenger sea voyage bound for Turkey has departed from the Juliana Free Zone port in Benghazi aboard the vessel ‘Gothica’, operated by the South Mediterranean Company.

Ali Al-Zarqa, Head of the Customs Media Department, told the Libyan News Agency that the launch of this maritime route is part of efforts to boost maritime transport and connect Libya to its regional and international surroundings, noting that the journey takes approximately two days.

He added that the new route would facilitate citizen travel, tourism, and economic exchange, while opening investment opportunities in maritime transport, providing new travel options, and easing the burden on other modes of transportation.
