The South African midfielder was part of Bafana Bafana’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making three appearances as Hugo Broos’ side finished second in Group A to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time in their history.
Their memorable campaign came to an end with a Round of 32 defeat to co-hosts Canada.
Adams’ Lasting Legacy
Adams also enjoyed success at club and continental level, winning the South African Premiership in 2025 and the 2026 CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns.
On the international stage, he was also part of the South Africa squad that secured a third-place finish at the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
Infantino Sends Heartfelt Message
Following the sad news of Adams’ passing on Saturday, Infantino paid tribute to the midfielder and offered his condolences to those closest to him.
“It’s so incredibly sad to hear that South Africa midfielder Jayden Adams has passed away just weeks after featuring in his nation’s historic FIFA World Cup campaign,” the president of the global federation said, per the official FIFA website.
“My thoughts and condolences, as well as those of everyone at FIFA and the global football community, are with his family, friends and teammates. The Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns star will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.”
