Fifa order Mo Salah to make last-minute change to World Cup shirt due to two unauthorised features
FIFA have forced Egypt to make two last-minute changes to their shirts for the World Cup.
Mohamed Salah‘s side are due to start their tournament on Monday against Belgium but won’t look exactly as planned.
That is after kit rules that deny ‘stars’ celebrating wins in other non-World Cup competitions.
Egypt, as the most successful African Cup of Nations country ever – with seven titles – have seven stars above their badge…until now.
Fifa have ordered them to remove the memento on each jersey, and they didn’t stop there.
Egypt, who usually rock gold numbers on the back of their tops, have been asked to switch up the printing as well.
Instead, they have been demanded to use standard white digits to help with legibility.
114-cap Salah, who skippers his team, will play at just his second career World Cup this summer.
Egypt also have New Zealand and Iran in Group G but won’t be able to flex their Afcon history in USA, Canada, and Mexico.
This is not the only late kit call made by Fifa ahead of the World Cup.
