South Africa and South Korea will both know what’s at stake when they line up at the Estadio BBVA on Thursday, 25 June.

A win for South Korea will guarantee their progress to the Round of 32, while South Africa needs to win and hope that Czechia do not beat Mexico to get automatic qualification.

Bafana’s Weaknesses

Han Jun-hee, revealed to Hans Biz that South Africa has been vulnerable to conceding early goals from mistakes.

“South Africa is a team prone to making mistakes when building up from the back via their goalkeeper,” he said.

“We must actively force errors from their goalkeeper, centre-backs, and defensive midfielders,” he added.

He also noted that Hugo Broos’s side will be short on numbers in midfield as both Teboho Mokoena and Themba Zwane are forced to sit out the game.

Biggest Strengths

Despite their vulnerabilities, Jun-hee also realised that South Africa’s pace and physicality could hurt the Asian nation, especially in transition and on the counter-attack out wide.

“We must not allow their wing-backs to sit in comfortable situations. Making their passing inaccurate is critical,” he said.

“Our wing-backs need to show more aggressive forward movement and quicker combinations,” Han stated.

“The centre-backs also need to step up and join the midfield battle at the right moments,” he concluded.
