EU, WHO step up emergency support for Congo

The European Commission said it sent 100 tons of humanitarian aid on Sunday to Ituri province in eastern Congo, the epicenter of the outbreak. The shipment includes medicine, tents, and protective equipment.

Meanwhile, the WHO and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have launched a joint response plan to strengthen surveillance, early detection, and support for affected countries.

With no approved vaccine or specific treatment currently available for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola driving the outbreak, response efforts remain focused on infection control, treatment of symptoms, and enhanced protection for healthcare workers.

Health authorities warn that, without timely containment measures, the outbreak could spread.
