Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has praised the players who featured in Nigeria’s victory over Zimbabwe, insisting they gave a strong account of themselves and impressed supporters with their performances.
Speaking after the match, Chelle admitted he was pleased with the contribution of several players, especially those making their first appearance for the national team.
“The players did well and represented themselves properly,” Chelle said.
According to the Super Eagles coach, the home-based players also showed encouraging signs despite the pressure that comes with international football.
“The NPFL players handled themselves well,” he implied.
Chelle stressed that the Unity Cup remains an important platform for evaluating players and helping them adjust to the demands of top-level football.
“Some of these players are experiencing this level for the first time,” he noted.
Despite the positive performance, the coach warned that there is still significant work ahead if the players hope to establish themselves permanently within the national team.
“The level at the top is very high,” he added.
Chelle also emphasized that playing for Nigeria comes with huge expectations and pressure from supporters.
“You must be mentally ready for the pressure too,” he stressed.
Nigeria’s performance against Zimbabwe has already sparked excitement around several newly invited players as competition for places intensifies.
“Some players definitely helped their chances,” many football observers believe.
The Super Eagles coach remains focused on balancing player development with immediate results as preparations continue for the AFCON qualifiers.
“This is only the beginning of the process,” he added.
For Eric Chelle, the message is clear.
Some players impressed strongly.
But consistency and mentality will determine who survives at the top level.
Because playing for the Super Eagles requires quality, pressure management, and continuous improvement.
