Equinor has set its sights on lifting equity output beyond Norway to 950,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030, compared with 750,000 in the April-to-June period of 2026, as it channels investment into a leaner international footprint centered on the U.S., Brazil, and Angola.

At an Offshore Northern Seas press event in Stavanger, Equinor Executive Vice President Philippe Mathieu noted that international output has climbed by more than 10% over the last two years, even after the company exited legacy operations in Azerbaijan and Nigeria. The company projects its international portfolio will yield roughly $20 billion in free cash flow from 2026 through 2030, with production-linked cash flow rising about 80% by the end of the decade—faster than output growth—thanks to a shift toward higher-margin assets.

The U.S. remains Equinor’s top producing country outside Norway, with equity output of 433,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in the second quarter, approximately 100,000 barrels higher than two years prior. The company has broadened its onshore natural gas presence in the U.S. while also pushing ahead with offshore projects. In the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, Equinor owns a 49% stake in the Shell-operated Sparta development, which is slated to come online in 2028.

Brazil is poised to be another key growth driver, with Equinor forecasting equity production nearing 200,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2030. The operated Bacalhau pre-salt field started output in late 2025 and is still ramping up, with well performance exceeding expectations. The Raia gas project is on track for startup in 2028 and could eventually meet around 15% of Brazil’s projected gas demand. The deepwater segment of Raia’s gas pipeline was installed this summer, reaching a maximum water depth of 2,735 meters.

In Angola, Equinor and operator Azule Energy sanctioned the Greater PAJ development in June, covering the Palas, Astrea, and Juno discoveries. That project is expected to begin production in 2029 and should tap approximately 250 million barrels of resources. Beyond approved projects, Equinor intends to boost exploration work to refresh its international portfolio. The company has recently taken a stake in a Chevron-operated exploration license offshore Namibia, where a drill-ready prospect could be tested by the end of this year. Equinor is also advancing exploration prospects in Brazil and Angola, with several drilling candidates potentially tested over the next two years, while it weighs additional opportunities in Argentina and the U.S.

Mathieu said the company is steadily increasing exploration efforts to support a deliberate strengthening and renewal of its international portfolio.
