EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – An Evansville man is under arrest this weekend, after police say, he was driving while intoxicated and didn’t even have a driver’s license to begin with.
Evansville Police say this all started just after 1:00 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Washington Square. An off-duty officer says he heard a loud crash coming from a parking lot. The officers say they saw a car with heavy front end damage resting against several parked cars.
Officers started talking to the driver, 30-year-old Cameron King of Evansville, and asked him for his drivers license and he told them he did not have one.
Police asked King to get out of the vehicle, but he attempted to turn the vehicle on and shift the vehicle into gear. An officer reached into the vehicle and pulled the keys out of the ignition and threw the keys onto the floor board.
Once King got out of the vehicle, officers placed him in handcuffs. EPD says King refused to submit to a chemical test. He was taken to Deaconess Midtown for jail clearance and between the ride and getting medical clearance at the hospital, King made several comments about how he was driving the vehicle and was impaired on alcohol.
King was then taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail and took a portable breathe test for jail staff. He blew a 0.106, which is over the legal limit.
He was arrested on charges of Operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Operating without ever obtaining a license, and Refusal to submit to a chemical test.
