(Alliance News) – Senegal’s Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and Eni Spa on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding to carry out preliminary studies and assess the oil and gas potential of offshore blocks SN01M, SN02M, SN03M, SN07M and SN40M.
Under the agreement, the Senegalese government said in a statement, “Eni will carry out, at its own expense, a program of studies and technical analyses aimed at deepening geological and geophysical knowledge of the five blocks concerned”.
The work will focus in particular on “the analysis of available 2D and 3D seismic data and well data, as well as the assessment of the oil and gas potential of the areas studied”. The protocol also provides for technical exchanges, specialized workshops and knowledge-transfer initiatives.
In this new phase, Petrosen, according to the statement, “is expected to play a central role, as the national company, in the understanding, promotion and development of Senegal’s sedimentary basin”.
Eni shares are up 0.5% at €24.12 per share.
