Ellis shines as Aussies topple Zimbabwe
Career best international figures from Nathan Ellis have helped Australia clinch victory in the opening ODI against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club.
After Matthew Renshaw (109 from 94 balls) registered his first international century in a decade to propel the tourists to 8-294, Ellis fired with the ball on route to his maiden five-wicket haul in national colours.
Ellis struck twice in his opening over to remove Innocent Kaia and Brian Bennett, then delivered the crucial blow on his return to the crease in the 31st over by ending a 98-run stand between Craig Irvine (59 from 60 balls) and Sikandar Raza via a brilliant delivery which cannoned into the former’s off-stump.
He then trapped Wellington Masakadza in front for his fourth scalp before finishing the innings bowling Newman Nyamhuri and ending with figures of 5-31 as the tourists completed a 59-run win.
The 31-year-old now has 15 wickets at an average of 14.6 from six ODIs this year.
New Hurricane Adam Zampa also got into the action, taking 1-55 from his 10 overs to move to a career total of 199 ODI wickets.
