South African mentor Rulani Mokwena has been tipped to achieve great things in the Egyptian Premier League following a great start.

In fact, one of Egypt’s highly respected sports journalists, Mohamed Hosny—the editor-in-chief of sports programs at the ON Sport channel — says Mokwena has turned heads after winning all 14 of his matches in charge of Pyramids, across all competitions.

“Mokoena has proven his worth with Pyramids in a very short time; he undoubtedly deserves to win the Egyptian League title and will surely be a strong, fierce contender for the CAF Champions League,” Hosny told Soccer Laduma.

The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns coach has only been in Egypt for three months, but he’s been winning hearts, as alluded to by Hosny.

“He possesses two key strengths: first, from a technical perspective, he is a highly advanced coach in terms of both technique and tactics. Second, he excels as a ‘life coach’—not only for the players and the coaching staff, but also in his interactions with the sports media. I love this man very much. He is also an honourable ambassador for African football and South African football on Egyptian soil.”

Hosny added that all of Egypt awaits Pyramids’ clash with Al Ahly on 23 November, when the FIFA international break is over. That tie could have a big say in this season’s league run, according to Hosny.

“The Egyptian League season is still long, and a major challenge lies ahead for Pyramids: a match against Al Ahly on November 23rd,” noted Hosny.

“It will be an extremely difficult game for both sides, and whoever wins will gain significant momentum in the race for the title, especially considering that Al Ahly lost their most recent encounter against Pyramids 3–0.”

Pyramids top the standings with eight wins from the same number of matches. They are on 24 points, while Al Ahly is also undefeated, but trail Mokwena’s team by four points as they posted six wins and two draws.
