Egyptian government reviews progress of joint healthcare infrastructure projects

Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and Minister of State for Military Production Salah Gomblat held a meeting to review progress on jointly implemented national healthcare projects, with both sides pledging to accelerate completion of ongoing works and expand future cooperation.

The meeting brought together senior officials from both ministries and representatives of relevant agencies to assess the implementation status of major construction and infrastructure projects serving the healthcare sector.

Abdel Ghaffar stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination and holding regular follow-up meetings to monitor implementation rates, identify challenges, and resolve them promptly to ensure projects are completed on schedule.

He said accelerating project execution remains a top priority, as completing these initiatives will significantly improve healthcare services and enhance the quality of medical care provided to citizens.

Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the meeting reviewed national projects being implemented by the National Authority for Military Production on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Population and the General Organization for Teaching Hospitals and Institutes.

The projects include upgrading existing healthcare facilities, improving infrastructure, constructing storage buildings, and developing new medical facilities.

Participants also reviewed project completion rates, implementation schedules, and financial progress, including funding requirements and payment disbursement procedures to ensure uninterrupted execution. The two ministries agreed to hold coordination meetings every two weeks to closely monitor progress.

For his part, Gomblat reaffirmed the Ministry of Military Production’s commitment to supporting national development projects, saying its affiliated companies possess advanced industrial, technological, and human capabilities that enable them to undertake strategic partnerships across multiple sectors.

He said he had instructed the heads of affiliated companies to conduct regular field inspections and address any obstacles that could delay implementation, ensuring projects are completed and brought into operation as quickly as possible.

Gomblat noted that cooperation between the two ministries extends beyond infrastructure projects. He said the state-owned Toya Technology Company has participated in the digital transformation of Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance System in six governorates—Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, South Sinai, Aswan, and Suez—serving around 5.6 million beneficiaries.

He described the Universal Health Insurance System as a model for equitable and sustainable healthcare, built on the principles of quality, social solidarity, and equal access to medical services, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.

The military production minister also expressed his ministry’s interest in expanding cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Population, particularly in localising medical technology industries, supporting sustainable development, and improving healthcare services nationwide.
