Egypt, US discuss elections and political process in Libya

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has discussed developments in Libya with US presidential adviser for African and Arab affairs Massad Boulos.

The talks focused on efforts to advance the political process and end the country’s political division.

Abdelatty said Egypt supported Libya’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, and stressed that the political process should remain Libyan-led.

He also called for presidential and parliamentary elections to be held simultaneously, describing them as essential to restoring stability and ending the division.

The Egyption minister stressed that regional and international efforts should be coordinated to help Libyans reach a lasting political settlement.
