Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, reaffirmed on Friday the strong and historic ties between Cairo and Moscow.
Speaking on behalf of the Egyptian government at Russia’s National Day celebrations at the Russian Embassy in Cairo, Minister Mahmoud Esmat praised the deeply rooted relations between the two nations, built on decades of constructive co-operation across various fields.
The minister highlighted that bilateral ties have achieved a qualitative leap over the current decade. This progress, he noted, is driven by the shared vision of both leaderships and founded on mutual respect for national sovereignty, common interests, and the aspirations of the Egyptian and Russian peoples.
Minister Esmat emphasised that co-operation between Egypt and Russia has evolved into a comprehensive, sustainable development partnership. This collaboration now spans a wide range of critical sectors, including industry, infrastructure, transportation, logistics, tourism, cultural exchange, education and trade.
He stressed that the shared ambitions of both countries continue to expand, expressing firm confidence that this longstanding partnership will further advance to serve the mutual interests of both nations.
El Dabaa: Modern icon of progress
As for El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, Minister Esmat stated it is far more than a strategic agreement or a major infrastructure project. Instead, he called it a tangible success story and a landmark development achievement that will secure Egypt’s energy needs for decades to come.
Minister Esmat said if the Aswan High Dam symbolised Egyptian-Soviet friendship in the 20th century, the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant represents a new symbol of the future and a testament to the depth of the Egyptian-Russian partnership in the 21st century.
The project serves as a major catalyst for the technological and industrial development currently underway in Egypt under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. Furthermore, it acts as a vital bridge for knowledge transfer and the cultivation of young Egyptian talent in the field of peaceful nuclear energy.
The El Dabaa project, which is being implemented by the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, embodies the shared vision of both leaderships and reflects the enduring strategic nature of their bilateral relations.
