Egypt: Reaping Gains From US-Iran Hostilities

The perpetual crisis in the Strait of Hormuz could ultimately provide a boost to Egypt’s regional position and its economy. Continued Hormuz uncertainty could see a boost in traffic via its vital Suez Canal waterway — so long as tensions don’t spread to the Red Sea. Renewed interest from Gulf national oil companies (NOCs) and oil majors in its role as an energy transit hub, or even as a safe haven for investment, could also follow. The country is also flexing its traditional diplomatic muscles.
