Cairo — Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Sunday, May 24, underscored Egypt’s unwavering support for Yemen’s unity, territorial integrity, and continued backing of national institutions and the internationally recognized government.
Speaking at the ninth session of the Yemeni‑Egyptian Strategic Dialogue in Cairo, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any attempts to internationalize or militarize the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, as well as the involvement of non‑littoral states in arrangements concerning these waters.
According to Yemen’s official news agency Saba, Abdelatty stressed that ensuring security and governance of this strategic maritime corridor is the exclusive responsibility of the Arab and African states bordering it.
He affirmed Egypt’s full support for Yemen’s legitimate government in fulfilling its role and meeting the aspirations of the Yemeni people, while backing the resumption of a comprehensive political settlement under UN auspices. Abdelatty also welcomed the recent UN‑brokered prisoner exchange agreement and expressed readiness to provide all forms of political and diplomatic support to advance peace efforts.
The Cairo talks, co‑chaired by Yemeni Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaea Mohsen Al‑Zendani and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Abdelatty, addressed national, regional, and international developments, opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation, and issues related to freedom of navigation and security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
