Egypt, Philippines seek stronger trade, economic ties

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, met Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr in Manila on Friday while attending the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Abdel-Aati conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. He emphasised the importance of building on the positive momentum between the two nations, particularly as they mark the 80th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year.

During the meeting, the foreign minister highlighted the need to expand trade and economic co-operation, urging business communities in both countries to capitalise on growing investment opportunities in Egypt and the Philippines.

President Marcos asked Abdel-Aati to return his warmest regards to President El-Sisi, stating that the Philippines deeply values its relationship with Egypt and looks forward to broadening co-operation across multiple sectors.

Marcos also commended Egypt’s pivotal role in fostering regional security and stability, praising Cairo’s ongoing efforts to mediate crises and promote peace in the Middle East.
