Hossam Hassan, Ibrahim Hassan and Mostafa Zico Hit With Bans

The Egypt FA confirmed in a statement on X that the FIFA Discipline Committee has issued a three-match suspension to both head coach Hossam Hassan and team manager Ibrahim Hassan, while striker Mostafa Zico has been slapped with a five-match ban.

The Egyptian Football Association has since submitted a request to FIFA for the detailed reasons behind the decisions, in order to study and assess their legal position and prepare potential appeal measures in accordance with applicable regulations.

World Cup Heartbreak Against Argentina

This comes after the Pharaohs suffered a dramatic and heartbreaking 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Hossam Hassan’s side let a two-goal lead slip away in a result that ended their tournament.

Visibly enraged by the officiating and the tight decisions that went against his side — including a controversial disallowed goal for Zico — the Egypt boss delivered an explosive and furious post-match press conference.

“We have been cheated unfairly today; we have suffered injustice,” Hassan fumed.

The coach launched a scathing critique of what he perceived as refereeing bias that cost his team a historic victory and a place in the quarter-finals, with the fallout reportedly sparking heated altercations in the tunnel area after the final whistle.
