Egypt, Greece launch joint military drills in Mediterranean
Egypt and Greece have launched the Medusa-15 joint military exercise, the Egyptian army said Tuesday.
According to a military statement, the exercise will continue for several days in the Mediterranean Sea and at several Greek air bases, Anadolu Agency reported.
The drill involves naval, air, air defense, reconnaissance and special forces units from Egypt and Greece, including paratroopers and commandos.
Forces from France, Italy and the Greek Cypriot administration are also taking part in the exercise, the statement said.
The training began with Egyptian and Greek naval forces conducting a passage exercise while sailing toward Greece. The exercise also includes theoretical and practical pre-training activities designed to unify combat concepts and facilitate the exchange of expertise among the participating countries, according to the statement.
The drill is expected to feature several activities focused on managing naval and air combat operations against various threats.
The statement said the exercise will also include live-fire drills and training to counter unconventional threats, demonstrating the advanced level of training and professionalism of the participating forces.
The Medusa military exercise between Egypt and Greece was first launched in December 2015.
