Egypt elevates local furniture industry to global standards

Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, stated that furniture remains one of Egypt’s longstanding industries, renowned for its strong reputation and promising competitive advantages.

He emphasised the need to establish a distinct identity for Egyptian furniture and strengthen links between designers and manufacturers, noting that design adds significant value.

Hashem added that the ministry aims to translate the sector’s competitive edge into increased production capacity, improved quality, and stronger exports, stressing that elevating Egyptian products to global standards is a key priority.

The minister’s remarks were made during a meeting on Saturday with furniture manufacturers, designers and suppliers. The meeting reviewed key measures to develop the sector, including deepening local manufacturing and activating digital marketing platforms and supporting access to foreign markets.

It also addressed opening new export markets, particularly in Africa, Libya and Iraq, while removing customs and logistical obstacles.

The meeting also tackled a comprehensive programme to support small and medium-sized furniture workshops through specialized training to improve the skills of technical workers.
