Egypt Dean, son of Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, to play for Long Island Lutheran

Alicia Keys is from Manhattan and has been known to sing about the city in an “Empire State of Mind.” Her husband, famed music producer and rapper Swizz Beatz, is from the Bronx. And their son is coming from California now to perform on Long Island and beyond.

Egypt Dean plays the piano, but he’s bound for Long Island Lutheran as a sophomore to play basketball for its acclaimed national program.

“They’ll understand the move soon. #luhi #next chapter” Dean wrote in the comments section that went with the commitment announcement on his Instagram page.

The 6-4 guard played as a freshman for La Jolla Country Day School outside of San Diego, averaging 8.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals, per MaxPreps.

His parents sounded thrilled with the move.

“Son! You are incredible!!!” Keys wrote in the comments section. “You are on the journey and there is NO Limit!!!!!!! (Fire emojis) just the beginning! Proud beyond words”

And his dad wrote this on his own Instagram post:

“The hard work doesn’t stop young King !!! We’re very proud of you making this brave move to the east ! Life begins at the end of your comfort Zone !!! Congrats on this new @luhibasketball opportunity to be great!! you got this King … let’s go @egypt.dean2”

There has already been D-I interest. Dean reportedly received a offer from Nevada a few months ago, although he would like to play for Duke, according to PEOPLE.

“Egypt is a dynamic player, who understands the game at a high level for his age,” LuHi coach John Buck told Newsday in a text. “He possesses leadership skills that will impact not just our program, but will add to our school as a whole. We’re incredibly excited to welcome Egypt and his family to LuHi!”

Dean has done music production and is an entrepreneur, and he’s still only 15. His royalties from a beat he produced at age 5 for Kendrick Lamar were used in June for his investment in a Ballislife sports beverage. The tab for that investment was seven figures long.

“My parents always say, ‘If you wanna be good at something, you have to put at least 10,000 hours into it,’ ” Dean told PEOPLE. “When it comes to basketball, I’ve probably surpassed that three times already. But dedication is key if you want to get good at something.”

Now he’s coming to try to be good as a student-athlete in Brookville.
