Egypt condemns Israel’s storming of UNRWA centre

Egypt strongly condemned the storming by Israeli occupation forces of the Qalandia Training Centre of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and the detention of students and staff inside the facility.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Egypt stressed that the incident constitutes a blatant violation of the sanctity of UN premises and is part of the ongoing Israeli escalation and the flagrant violations taking place in occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Such actions, the statement added, is a grave breach of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as a violation of the four Geneva Conventions concerning the protection of civilians under occupation.

Egypt reaffirmed its categorical rejection of all measures aimed at undermining UNRWA’s mandate or obstructing the agency from carrying out its humanitarian and relief duties.

Egypt also called on the international community, the UN Security Council and the United Nations to assume their responsibilities and take urgent action to halt the repeated Israeli violations against UN facilities, ensure the protection of UNRWA and enable it to continue fulfilling its mandate.
