Eekad: New fortifications and roads detected at RSF supply sites in southern Libya

The investigative platform “Eekad” has reported continued activity at three locations it previously linked to supply routes used by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in southern Libya, saying activity intensified during June, July and August 2026.

The platform said the developments were concentrated near Al-Uwaynat and the tri-border area linking Libya, Egypt and Sudan, as well as around the Maaten Al-Sarra airbase in southeastern Libya toward the Chadian border.

Around Al-Uwaynat, Eekad said it detected the construction of dirt roads, berms and barriers, the appearance of new buildings and repeated vehicle movements. Satellite imagery near Maaten Al-Sarra also showed what the platform described as logistical facilities, warehouses and vehicles surrounded by berms, along with new roads connecting the sites to the airbase and routes leading toward the Chadian border.

According to Eekad, construction at one of the sites began in mid-March 2026, while a road connecting it to the first location appeared by the end of July. The three sites saw the most intensive construction, fortification and road-building activity during June and July.

Eekad said the nature of the berms, barriers and newly constructed roads indicated fixed and fortified infrastructure that went beyond the requirements of routine transit or storage, supporting its assessment that supply routes linked to the RSF remain active.

The platform added that activity along Al-Kufra route and near the tri-border area coincided with renewed activity at Al-Kufra Airport.
