Edo decorator hacked to death in Benin

A 30-year-old decorator, Esohe Aigbe, has been hacked to death in Benin, Edo State, by unidentified persons after she reportedly went to assist a friend at a funeral decoration venue.

Saturday PUNCH gathered on Friday that the victim went to Ojo Street in Ogida Quarters, Benin City, on May 27 to help decorate a funeral venue.

It was learnt that Aigbe had completed her job and was still at the venue when she was attacked with a machete by yet-to-be-identified persons.

A source said the attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault.

“The deceased was attacked with a machete at the venue of the burial where she went to do a decorating job. After the attack, the perpetrators left hurriedly,” the source said.

It was gathered that the victim was later rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital by good Samaritans, but was confirmed dead due to the severity of the machete cuts.

The Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident, saying a suspect had already been arrested.

“I’m aware of a murder case in the area. We already have one suspect in our custody, and investigation is still ongoing as I speak to you,” she said.
