The Bundibugyo virus, also known as BDBV, is one of six known species of the Ebola virus.
It was first identified in 2007 during an outbreak in the Bundibugyo district in Uganda, where it got its name.
It presents with symptoms including fever, severe headache, muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, diarrhoea, vomiting, and, in some cases, bleeding.
International health teams are continuing verification and response efforts in the DRC as the country grapples with the deadly virus.
Congolese authorities have partnered with international health organisations to ramp up lifesaving efforts, as both the number of infections and deaths increases.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) and other partners are monitoring the situation closely as concerns grow over cross-border spread.
