Donald Trump: The 45th & 47th President of the United States

Today’s subject wrote the bestseller “Art of the Deal” in 1989. He is the first billionaire to become Commander-in-Chief, with a net worth estimated at $ 6.5 billion.

Donald John Trump was born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York, the son of a real estate developer and a homemaker.

He attended a private school in Queens and a military academy during his high school years.

Trump attended Fordham University for two years before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, graduating in 1968. He didn’t serve during the Vietnam War. Trump received four student deferments and one medical deferment. He’s been married three times and has five children.

In the 1980s, he made a name for himself in Manhattan real estate, building the Hyatt New York Hotel and Trump Tower. He also opened hotel-casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and bought and renovated Mar-a-Lago in Florida into a private club.

Trump owned the Miss USA and Miss Universe beauty pageants, as well as the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League.

He hosted the successful reality show “The Apprentice” for 14 seasons, making his catchphrase, “You’re Fired,” a part of the American lexicon.

In 2015, with no political experience, Trump began his presidential campaign. With his “Make America Great Again” mantra, he would beat out 16 candidates to get the Republican nomination. In one of the biggest upsets in US history, he defeated Hillary Clinton to become the 45th President of the United States, winning the electoral vote but lost the popular vote.

During a tumultuous first term, Trump would be impeached in 2019 for abuse of power and obstruction of justice for asking the president of Ukraine to investigate his political rival Joe Biden and Biden’s son’s involvement with a Ukrainian gas company.

Trump would be acquitted by the Senate and stayed in office.

During the 2020 presidential campaign, the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing. Joe Biden received the most votes in US presidential history to defeat Trump.

On January 6, 2021, Congress met to certify the election. A crowd of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and rioted. Trump would be impeached for the second time in 2021 for “incitement of insurrection”, and was again acquitted by the Senate.

In 2024, Trump made one of the greatest comebacks in US presidential history. He survived an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania during the campaign and would defeat Kamala Harris, Biden’s vice president, after Biden dropped out of the race after a disastrous debate performance. Trump won the election, joining Grover Cleveland as the only two presidents to serve non-consecutive terms.

President Trump was convicted in May of 2024 of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records as part of an alleged hush money scheme to influence the 2016 election. A judge granted Trump an unconditional discharge that affirms he’s a convicted felon, but with no further penalties, fines. or jail time.
