Don R. Modesitt, 84, passed away Aug. 18, 2026, surrounded by his family. Don was born in Brazil on Nov. 10, 1941, to the late William and Eunice (Crosley) Modesitt.

Don graduated from Brazil High School in 1959. On May 12, 1961, Don married his high school sweetheart, Mary Rittinghouse. He worked as a machinist at Hercules/AET for over 35 years until his retirement. Don was a member of Bee Ridge Church. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time at the cabin, woodworking and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. Don and Mary loved to travel, especially out West.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, John Modesitt, Edward Modesitt and Velera “Sue” Withers.

Don is survived by his wife, Mary; three children, Rick Modesitt, Brenda Frame (Steve) and Greg Modesitt; grandchildren Holly, Brock, Carrie, Travis, Shawn, Heather and Zach; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 23 from 12-2 p.m. at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Jeff Bridgewater will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery.
