Does the United States or Mexico have more players in the Champions League 2026/27?

Mexico may have won its Leagues Cup battle against the United States, while its national team also holds the Gold Cup and CONCACAF Nations League titles. But there is one contest in which the Stars and Stripes has once again come out on top.

The United States is set to have seven players in the next edition of the UEFA Champions League, although that number could change before the summer transfer window closes on September 1.

The seven Americans currently in line to feature are Johnny Cardoso (Atlético Madrid), Mathis Albert (Borussia Dortmund), Samuel Adeniran and George Bello (LASK); Ricardo Pepi and Sergiño Dest (PSV Eindhoven), and Alex Freeman (Villarreal).

Meanwhile, with the transfer window still open, Mexico is on course to have just two representatives in the next Champions League, provided Obed Vargas (Atlético Madrid) and Álvaro Fidalgo (Real Betis) remain with their clubs. Santiago Giménez could join them if he signs for Porto.

Historic number of Americans in Europa League

In addition, 11 American players are expected to compete in the UEFA Europa League. Seven of them featured at the 2026 World Cup.

The 11 are Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah (AC Milan); Tyler Adams (AFC Bournemouth); Malik Tillman (Bayer Leverkusen); Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty (Celtic); Chris Richards (Crystal Palace); Weston McKennie (Juventus); Tanner Tessmann (Lyon); Tim Weah (Marseille); and Bryan Reynolds (Stade Rennais).
