Envoy Kuol Nyok Kuol Arop has met leaders of the South Sudan Teachers’ Union in Egypt in Cairo to review the state of South Sudanese educational centres and explore ways to improve their performance in line with Egyptian regulations.
The discussions focused on strengthening education standards and addressing operational challenges facing South Sudanese schools in Egypt.
Talks examined the need to formalize the status of learning institutions according to Egyptian legal requirements, assess recent examination outcomes, and respond to shortages of qualified teaching staff.
Participants also reviewed updated examination registration procedures and broader challenges affecting schools, students, and families.
Ambassador Kuol pledged to engage the Ministry of General Education and Instruction in Juba to advocate for an increase in the operational budget allocated to examinations from 10 percent to 40 percent to improve efficiency and future exam administration.
He welcomed plans by the Teachers’ Union to conduct internal elections for new leadership and commended educators for their continued commitment to supporting South Sudanese learners despite existing difficulties.
The Ambassador further urged teachers to raise awareness among communities on the importance of complying with host country laws, including maintaining valid residency documentation.
He emphasized that education remains central to national development, stating that strengthening the sector is key to building a better future for South Sudanese children.
“Education is the foundation of a stronger South Sudan. Together, we can build a brighter future for our children.”
