Dinson to start cement production in Zimbabwe in October

Dinson Iron and Steel Co (Disco) plans to begin cement production at its Manhize industrial complex in October 2026, with an annual capacity of 400,000t.

Project Manager Wilfred Motsi said the cement plant remains on schedule and will use by-products from the company’s steelmaking operations, including blast furnace slag, as raw materials.

“Plans are underway by Disco to start cement production in October this year. We are looking at the production of 400,000 tonnes annually and it’s on schedule,” said Mr Motsi.

The cement project forms part of the further development of Disco’s integrated Manhize steel complex in Zimbabwe’s Midlands Province. The company is also preparing to expand steel production and manufacture additional downstream products, including wire rods, reinforcing bar and angle iron.

Disco currently generates around 70MW of electricity through coal-fired generation and waste heat recovery, and is working to connect surplus generation to Zimbabwe’s national grid.
