DIGITAL BUSINESS : Players point to growth amid infrastructure

Uganda’s digital retail space is shifting rapidly toward “quick commerce,” a model that promises the delivery of groceries, food, and household essentials within 30 to 60 minutes. However, industry players say its growth is being tested by persistent gaps in digital infrastructure and retail readiness.

Speaking about the evolving sector, Vice President of Quick Commerce and Product at Glovo, Connie Kwok, says the model represents the next phase of online retail, driven by rising consumer demand for speed, convenience, and instant access to essentials.

However, she points to critical structural challenges, including limited digital adoption, weak inventory tracking systems in supermarkets, and inadequate internet penetration.
