Deputy Foreign Minister Meets with Military Advisor to UN Envoy to Yemen

Sana’a – Saba:

Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras met on Tuesday with the Military Advisor to the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Anthony Hayward, in the presence of the Head of the Security Arrangements Section at the Special Envoy’s Office, Snezana Kaufman, and the Director of the Special Envoy’s Office in Sana’a, Mohammed Al-Ghannam.

The meeting addressed the latest developments regarding the transfer of the UN Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) to the Special Envoy’s Office, as well as developments on the national, regional, and international fronts.

During the meeting, the Deputy Foreign Minister reiterated Sana’a’s commitment to achieving peace and implementing the Stockholm Agreement, including the Hodeidah Agreement, and to providing all necessary support for the completion of the transfer of UNMHA’s responsibilities to the Special Envoy’s Office.

He stressed that the time has come to achieve peace in Yemen, that the state of neither peace nor war cannot continue indefinitely, and that Saudi Arabia must sit at the negotiating table to implement the agreed-upon roadmap, as well as end the escalation of the humanitarian crisis, particularly the continued closure of Sana’a airport and the restrictions imposed on imports, in order to preserve the gains achieved and avoid sliding into something with dire consequences.

Abu Ras emphasized that a misreading of regional developments has stalled the peace process and could lead to a renewed outbreak of violence, noting that events have proven that any escalation in the region casts a negative shadow on the entire world.

The Deputy Foreign Minister also affirmed that the region does not need further escalation and wars.

For his part, the military advisor to the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Yemen affirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to achieve sustainable peace in Yemen.
