Democracy Day: PDP Senatorial Candidate Expresses Concerns Over State Of Nation, Niger  – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

People’s Democratic Party Board of Trustees Member and Senatorial Candidate, Niger-North (Zone’C’) Yahaya Ability has spoke passionately about what he described as, ‘troubling state of the nation, Niger state’, under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yahaya, speaking to journalists in Minna on his assessment of the APC administration from 2015 till date, said Nigeria has been dragged decades backwards through excessive borrowings without corresponding developments across sectors of the nation’s economy, sequel to rising corruption, deteriorating infrastructure, unbearable cost of living, coupled with alarming insecurity escalating across Nigeria.

In Niger state, zone ‘C’ in particular, the 2026 Niger North Senatorial hopeful expressed deep concerns that communities across the zone have continued to live in fear despite increased allocations to states and various constituencies’ intervention funds.

Foremost duty of any state Governor, the PDP Chieftain further pointed out, is the protection of their lives and properties of citizenry, but unfortunately, many still go to bed uncertain of their safety.

He emphasised that leadership must be measured not by promises made during electioneering campaigns, in-between times or ability of deceitfulness but by the security and democratic dividends enjoyed by the people.

While promising that if entrusted with the mandate to represent zone ‘C’ in the Senate, security related issues would not be treated as side discussions but remain a top priority on the floor of the National Assembly, Yahaya challenged Niger state government to show evidence of democratic dividends that have put smiles on the faces of Nigerlites in the past three years.

He vowed to be a relentless voice not just for the vulnerable communities, downtrodden but voiceless masses to ensure that their cries are heard where decisions on the collective well-being of a greater percentage of Nigerians are made for consideration.

Nigeria, according to the PDP chieftain, must move beyond commemorating democracies and begin to build a nation that genuinely works for all, devoid of regional, tribal, religious or any other sentiment.

Marking Democracy Day in Nigeria should transcend beyond celebrations by becoming a moment of national introspection, a day for honest reflections on the country’s challenges and as well renewed commitments to fixing them.

The Senatorial hopeful further maintained that, “The true test of democracy is not in the ceremonies we hold, but in the safety of citizens and their properties. The dignity, equality and prosperity that is enjoyed by the people”.
