Deadly Truck Crash On Sagamu-Benin Expressway Claims One Life, Injures Another – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

A fatal collision between two trucks on the Benin-Ore Expressway has left one person dead and another injured in the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.

According to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, the crash happened near the expressway’s J4 section around 12 pm.

Akinbiyi stated that the accident involved a white Howo truck (license plate FSK 274 XA) and an unregistered blue tractor. Three men were in the vehicle at the time; one was killed, and another suffered injuries.

Official reports said, “The accident was triggered by an overspeeding truck driver who lost control of the vehicle. Emergency responders from TRACE and the police arrived at roughly 12:20 pm to coordinate rescue operations and clear the traffic.”

Akinbiyi said the victims were subsequently taken to Hope Hospital, J4, for medical attention, while the police and a towing vehicle were contacted to facilitate investigation and evacuation of the damaged vehicles.

He noted that traffic was affected during the evacuation exercise, but normalcy had since been restored.

Akinbiyi, however, expressed the condolences of the agency and the police to the family of the deceased and urged motorists to avoid excessive speeding.

He concluded, “While TRACE and the police commiserate with the family of the deceased, motorists are again warned against excessive speed in view of its attendant consequences.”
