Dana Gas temporarily suspends Iraq’s Khor Mor gas field operations

Erbil (IraqiNews.com) – Dana Gas has halted operations at the Khor Mor gas field in Iraq’s Kurdistan region after receiving serious security threat information, affecting fuel deliveries to power plants and lowering energy output across the area.

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Electricity said that the closure at the field in Sulaimani province reduced available producing capacity by around 2,500 megawatts, impacting electricity output at a time of peak seasonal demand.

Dana Gas said that it has temporarily halted operations on the site as a precaution in response to the security concern. The firm did not provide any information or announce when operations will restart.

Khor Mor is northern Iraq’s primary source of natural gas for electricity production, feeding multiple power stations that provide a significant portion of the region’s energy.

The suspension comes after several security events targeting energy infrastructure in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, increasing worries about the safety of oil and gas installations.

The corporation and Iraqi officials did not immediately disclose any information about the danger or clarify whether the field had sustained damage.
