Cuba praises Kuwait Fund’s backing for infrastructure

Havana offers medical expertise as the first round of double taxation talks concludes

HAVANA: Cuba’s First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Gerardo Penalver Portal on Saturday praised Kuwait’s continued support, through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), for his country’s infrastructure and economic development.

According to a statement from the Kuwaiti Embassy in Havana, the remarks came during a meeting between Kuwait’s Ambassador to Cuba Adel Al-Adgham and Penalver, attended by senior officials from the Cuban foreign ministry. The two reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to expand cooperation across several sectors.

Penalver commended the ties between the two countries and expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s political and economic solidarity, as well as KFAED’s role in financing key Cuban infrastructure projects, particularly in water resources and municipal development.

He said Havana was ready to strengthen cooperation in healthcare, expressing willingness to offer medical expertise and personnel to Kuwait, and thanked Kuwait for its support for Cuban positions and for international resolutions in multilateral forums.

Penalver also welcomed the outcome of last week’s visit to Havana by a joint delegation from Kuwait’s ministries of finance and foreign affairs, which held the opening round of talks on a double taxation agreement between the two countries. — KUNA
