CSA Strengthens Communications Unit | News

The Civil Service Agency of Liberia has taken a bold step to strengthen its Communications and Public Relations Division with the appointment of renowned award-winning Liberian broadcast journalist Varflay Kamara.

Kamara, a former journalist at the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), joined the CSA as a Senior Communications Consultant in early 2026.

Varflay Kamara’s journalism career has spanned over ten years, most of it at the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS), where he held prominent roles, including Director of News, Director of Public Affairs, Executive Mansion Reporter, Legislative Reporter, Senior Newscaster/Reporter. 

His work as a journalist is well-grounded in professionalism, integrity, distinction and impact. As Lead Talk-Show presenter at ELBC, Varflay Kamara elevated the institution into a credible and recognizable broadcast media outlet, facilitating debates on good governance with local, national, and international personalities. 

The new CSA Director of Communications and Public Relations has gained various media and diplomatic training in Ghana, Nigeria, China, and the United States of America.

Kamara’s solid broadcast journalism career focused on development, diplomacy, governance, and political reporting with strong expertise in strategic communication, news writing and editing, media advocacy and research, crisis management, multimedia production, and organizational branding. 

His professional background has enabled him to build and maintain strong working relationships with both national and international media institutions, and to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders across different sectors. 

Mr. Kamara embodies integrity, respect and service. 

He is a recipient of many broadcast journalism awards including 2025/2026 National Broadcast Journalist of the Year, Liberia Broadcaster Association, 2023/2024, Employee of the Year/News Department, Liberia Broadcasting System, 2021/2022, Employee of the Year/News Department, Liberia Broadcasting System and 2019/2020, Executive Mansion Reporter of the year, Press Union of Liberia.

Varflay Kamara’s appointment at the CSA is viewed as strategic to management’s vision of having a robust, effective, and efficient Communications and Public Relations Division at the Civil Service Agency.
