Colombian man sentenced after multi-state jewelry theft investigation involving the Town of Greece

GREECE, N.Y. — The United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut announced that a man has been sentenced to 57 months in prison for being involved in an organized jewelry theft ring on Wednesday. Officials say he robbed from several stores across the U.S., including in the Town of Greece.

The attorney’s office says Harold Ramirez Cagua, a 42-year-old from Colombia, last living in Miami, robbed mall-based stores and kiosks. Ramirez Cagua and other nationals from Colombia committed the crimes between May 2023 and April 2024, taking the jewelry across state lines.

Ramirez Cagua stole from a store back on August 12, 2023, in Greece. He was also involved in crimes in Horseheads, New York, as well as New Jersey, Ohio, Indiana, Connecticut, among other states.

In the ring, his job was to help book flights and travel plans for burglaries, using rental cars and housing. He and his ring would break into closed businesses, sometimes cutting through walls to steal, according to the attorney’s office.

He was detained on July 18, 2024, and pleaded guilty to interstate transportation of stolen property on March 5, 2025.

Over $4.4 million was stolen throughout the series of burglaries, and none of the stolen jewelry has been recovered, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
