Legendary Colombian striker Radamel Falcao García will begin a new chapter in his career during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. After more than two decades as a professional footballer and becoming one of the most important players in Colombian football history, Falcao will make his debut as a commentator during broadcasts of the tournament, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The news was confirmed by ESPN and Disney+ Premium, networks for which the former Colombia national team forward will serve as a guest analyst during Colombia’s matches. His addition is part of the special World Cup coverage planned by both broadcasters and represents one of the most notable signings in Latin American sports television for the tournament.

Falcao’s move into sports broadcasting marks a significant transition in a career that has been defined by elite-level competition since his early professional years. After completing his final season with Millonarios FC, the striker will begin a new role focused on analysis and interpretation of the game.

During the 2026 World Cup, he will join renowned commentator Fernando Palomo and former Colombian defender Carlos Valdés on ESPN’s coverage team. His responsibilities will include live match commentary, tactical analysis, special programs, and pre- and post-match coverage of Colombia’s games.

Although the striker was not included in coach Néstor Lorenzo’s World Cup squad, his presence in the broadcast booth will allow him to maintain a close connection with the national team and the millions of fans who have followed his career over the years.

Falcao’s international experience, gained through spells in Argentina, Portugal, Spain, France, England, and Turkey, is one of the qualities most valued by the network’s production team.

Falcao holds a special place in Colombia’s sporting history. The forward became the all-time leading scorer for the Colombia national team and played a crucial role in helping the country qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, although an injury ultimately prevented him from participating in the tournament.

Four years later, he achieved one of the most significant milestones of his career by playing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he scored his first World Cup goal in Colombia’s 3–0 victory over Poland. That moment remains one of the most emotional highlights of his international career.

Colombian representation at the World Cup from a different perspective

Falcao’s role in the 2026 World Cup broadcasts also reflects a growing trend in international football: the inclusion of former star players on television analysis teams. His experience as captain of the Colombia national team and as a competitor on some of football’s biggest stages will allow him to offer unique insights into what happens both on and off the field.

For many Colombian football fans, the 2026 World Cup will provide the first opportunity to hear one of the nation’s greatest football legends analyze matches from the commentary booth, marking his transition from iconic player to respected football analyst
