Following a vibrant opening ceremony and team parade, attention quickly returned to the court for the headline clash between Golden Fireballs and Free State Crinums, a matchup that lived up to its billing on paper but ultimately turned into a statement performance by the Crinums at the Durban University of Technology (Steve Biko Campus) in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, 25 April 2026.
The Crinums asserted control early, but it was in the second quarter where they truly separated themselves, surging to a commanding 32-13 lead. Their dominance across both ends of the court left the Fireballs struggling to find rhythm.
By the latter stages of the match, the Crinums had extended their advantage to 48-21, effectively putting the contest beyond reach heading into the final quarter. Despite a late push from the Fireballs, who showed glimpses of resilience in the closing minutes, the gap proved too large to overcome.
The Crinums closed out an emphatic 59-42 victory, underlining their early tournament credentials with a composed and clinical performance.

Day 2 of the Telkom Netball League Power Week 1 continued to build momentum at the Durban University of Technology, with another action-packed schedule delivering standout performances across both divisions.
The Division 1 clash between the Jaguars and Flames lived up to its billing as the match of the day, with the Jaguars claiming a convincing 53-43 victory in their opening fixture of the tournament.
The Jaguars started with intent, taking control early to lead 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, with wing attack Tshina Mdau proving influential in driving play. Despite a spirited response from the Flames, backed by a vocal crowd, the Jaguars maintained their composure to extend their lead to 28-21 at halftime.

The contest remained physical and competitive in the second half, but the Jaguars’ consistency and control saw them close out the match comfortably.
In the first match of the day, North West Tshukudu got the day started with an impressive comeback performance, with Tshukudu defeating the Sunbirds 49-41 in a Division 2 encounter. After trailing 12-8 at the end of the first quarter, Tshukudu responded strongly in the second, turning the game around to take a 25-22 lead into halftime.
They maintained their momentum through the second half, holding off a determined Sunbirds side before pulling away in the closing stages to secure a well-earned victory.

The third match of the day saw the Tornados continue their strong form with a commanding 69-29 victory over the Baobabs. A blistering start saw the Tornados surge to a 21-4 lead in the opening quarter, setting the tone for a one-sided contest.
Their dominance extended into the second quarter, with a 45-9 halftime lead effectively putting the match beyond reach, and despite some improvement from the Baobabs in the second half, the Tornados maintained control throughout.
The Kingdom Queens delighted their home supporters with a hard-fought 46-42 win over Sonoblomo in a keenly contested match. Sonoblomo made the stronger start, leading 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, but the Queens gradually worked their way back into the game.

With both sides evenly matched, the contest remained tight throughout before the Queens pulled ahead in the closing stages to secure victory.
In one of the most entertaining matches of the day, the Southern Stings held off a spirited Kingdom Stars side to claim a 45-40 victory. The Stars made a strong start, taking a 13-11 lead in the opening quarter, energised by an enthusiastic home crowd.
However, the Stings grew into the match, overturning the deficit to lead 26-22 at halftime before extending their advantage to 37-33 heading into the final quarter. A tense finish saw the Stars push hard, but the Stings held firm – including during the decisive Telkom Supershot period – to secure the win.
