The Executive Secretariat of the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Western Region (CLCPRO) received, this Thursday in Algiers, His Excellency Colonel Mahaman Elhadj Ousmane, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Niger, on the sidelines of a high-level official mission carried out by the Nigerien delegation in Algeria.
The visit was an opportunity to introduce His Excellency to the Executive Secretariat’s team and to present the Commission’s main areas of intervention and strategic priorities in the prevention, monitoring and control of the Desert Locust in the western region. The exchanges shed light on the regional coordination efforts deployed by the CLCPRO for the benefit of its member states, particularly in the areas of capacity building, early warning, information sharing and technical cooperation.
Discussions also covered the concrete contributions of the CLCPRO to Niger since 2025, including the training of staff and technicians from the National Desert Locust Control Centre, the provision of survey and treatment equipment, and the recent handover of all-terrain vehicles from the stocks of the Western Region Intervention Force (FIRO) — all forms of support that speak to regional solidarity in action.
On this occasion, His Excellency Colonel Mahaman Elhadj Ousmane reaffirmed Niger’s commitment to supporting the Commission’s work and the regional coordination dynamic it ensures, with a view to strengthening food security and effectively addressing the challenges posed by locust invasions.
The Executive Secretariat of the CLCPRO welcomes this visit, which reflects the importance that member states attach to regional cooperation and concerted action in the prevention and control of the Desert Locust.
